Committees

The RCC was founded with three subcommittees: Breaking the Silence on Hidden Violence, Solidarity Alliance, and the Needs Assessment Subcommittee. Each one of these subcommittees were already working together and became incorporated into the RCC infrastructure. Since then, the RCC has formed other subcommittees and working groups (called 'committees') to fit the needs of the community at the time.

The following RCC committees are active at this time:

This committee is composed of community members and representatives from agencies who work in some capacity with 2S/LGBTQIA+ newcomers to the Waterloo Region. The committee works to address gaps in, and barriers to, services and essential resources for 2S/LGBTQIA+ newcomers in the Waterloo Region.
Newcomers include immigrants, refugees, international students, as well as internal migrants.

A key goal of the Breaking the Silence on Hidden Violence Committee (‘Breaking the Silence’) is to prevent and reduce violence experienced by 2S/LGBTQIA+ communities and individuals in the Waterloo Region.
The committee approaches this through the principles of harm reduction, community safety, conflict mediation, and intersectionality.

The Steering Committee works to develop the direction of the RCC as a whole. The Steering Committee also evaluates and advises the RCC Chair, and provides important administrative feedback that ensures the accountability, sustainability and viability of the RCC as a whole.

Education Committee

The Education Committee was recreated in 2024 to evaluate the local need for 2S/LGBTQIA+ affirmative and sensitive education. This could be through identifying needs, promoting existing resources, or proposing new educational initiatives.
To increase accountability of the RCC as a whole, this committee also evaluates any educational needs of the RCC.

A research partnership to provides evidence-based recommendations for a coordinated regional approach to funding services and programs for 2SLGBTQ communities in Waterloo Region.
